Michelle M. May, LPC, NCC is a psychotherapist, author, trainer, supervisor, and speaker. Michelle serves as the Chair of the Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) program at the New Washington School of Psychiatry. Additionally, she is an Intensive Dynamic Therapist (ISTDP), providing psychotherapy to adult individuals and couples at her private practice in Washington, DC and Virginia. Michelle also offers trainings to health practices, universities, and organizations, as well as individual and group consultative supervision to health professionals. She is the author of the upcoming book, What I Couldn’t Tell My Therapist: The Truths We Told to Heal Our Lives.

Michelle helps her clients find resolution and healing in areas such as anxiety, difficulty connecting to others, self-doubt, self-criticism, anxiety, and depression. Mental health challenges can manifest in various ways, and sometimes physical symptoms appear without a clear medical explanation. Michelle specializes in addressing physical symptoms that have stumped doctors, including headaches, pain caused by chronic muscle tension, and irritable bowels. By working holistically, she supports individuals and couples in identifying and addressing the deepest underlying psychological factors contributing to both their mental and physical health struggles.
